Call Center Requirements in the Philippines: Documents, Qualifications and Hiring Steps
By Dave Wilson · 8 min read · 21 October 2026
To apply to a call center in the Philippines you usually need to be at least 18, have finished senior high school or some college, speak clear English and be willing to work night shifts. You do not need BPO experience for most entry-level accounts. On hiring day you bring a resume and a valid ID. The paperwork comes after the job offer: NBI clearance, your SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG and TIN numbers, a PSA birth certificate, school records and a medical exam. Most results for this search are videos, Reddit threads, or guides for companies setting up a call center. This page is the written checklist for the applicant, in the order you will need each item.

Call center requirements at a glance
Requirements come in three batches. Only the first two matter before you have an offer, so do not delay applying because your NBI clearance is not ready yet.
| Stage | What they ask for | When |
|---|---|---|
| To apply | Age 18 or over, senior high school or college level, conversational English, willingness to work shifts | Before you send the application |
| Hiring day | Printed resume, one or two valid government IDs, a pen, and for online hiring a quiet room, a headset and stable internet | At the initial interview and assessments |
| After the job offer | NBI clearance, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG and TIN numbers, PSA birth certificate, school records, ID photos, medical exam | Usually before your start date or before new hire orientation |
What qualifications do you need to apply?
Job ads list the same handful of qualifications. Recruiters screen for the last three far more strictly than the first two.
- Age: 18 or older. Most call center work in the Philippines serves US, UK or Australian customers at night, and night work is not allowed for minors.
- Education: senior high school graduate, college level, or college graduate. Many BPOs accept K to 12 graduates for entry-level voice accounts. Some accounts, such as health care or financial, ask for a degree or a related course.
- Spoken English: clear and understandable, not accent-free. This is tested in the interview and usually in a spoken English test such as Versant.
- Basic computer skills and typing: you type notes while you talk, so most hiring days include a typing test. Voice accounts often look for 30 to 40 words per minute.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and holidays, because the account follows the client's time zone and calendar, not the Philippine one.

Practise the mock call before hiring dayWhat to bring on the application day
For a walk-in or scheduled on-site hiring day, bring a printed resume (two copies is safer), at least one valid government ID, a pen, and something to eat, because a full day of interview, tests and mock call can run past lunch. Dress in smart casual. You do not need your SSS or NBI papers yet, though some recruiters ask for the numbers if you already have them.
For online hiring, the requirements are about your setup: a laptop or desktop rather than a phone if the assessment link asks for one, a wired or USB headset with a microphone, a quiet room, and an internet connection that will not drop during a recorded test. Test your microphone in the browser before the call starts. If you have no resume yet, the resume sample for no experience gives a one-page layout.
Pre-employment requirements after the job offer
Once you accept an offer, HR gives you a list and a deadline, often a few days to two weeks, and some offers lapse if the list is not complete in time. The exact list varies by company, but these are the items that appear on nearly every one.
| Requirement | Where you get it | Note |
|---|---|---|
| NBI clearance | Apply online with the NBI, then appear at an NBI clearance center for your photo and fingerprints | Start this first: a "hit" (a name match) can delay release by several working days |
| SSS number | Register online on the My.SSS portal | The number is what HR needs; the ID card can follow |
| PhilHealth number | Register at a PhilHealth office or online, and keep your Member Data Record (MDR) | HR often asks for the MDR printout |
| Pag-IBIG MID number | Register online with Pag-IBIG Fund | Registration gives you the MID number immediately |
| TIN | BIR | If you have never had one, ask HR first: employers usually register a first-time employee's TIN for you |
| PSA birth certificate | PSA online or a PSA outlet | Some companies accept a photocopy, others ask for the original |
| School records | Your school registrar | Diploma, transcript of records or Form 137, depending on your highest level |
| ID photos | Any photo studio | Usually 2x2 and 1x1 on white background |
| Medical exam | The company's partner clinic, usually paid by the employer | Commonly a blood test, urinalysis, chest X-ray and drug test |
| Certificate of employment and BIR Form 2316 | Your previous employer | Only if you worked before; the 2316 matters if you start mid-year |

If this is your first job, the First Time Jobseekers Assistance Act (Republic Act 11261) waives the government fees for documents you need to apply, including the NBI clearance, police clearance, barangay clearance and PSA birth certificate. Get a barangay certification that you are a first-time jobseeker, then present it when you request each document. Each document is free once, and the certification is valid for one year.
The hiring steps between applying and the job offer
Documents rarely decide whether you are hired. These steps do, and most BPOs run several of them on the same day.
Initial interview
A short screening by a recruiter: tell me about yourself, why a call center, are you okay with night shift. The interview questions for no experience cover the ones that decide most first rounds.
Assessment tests
A grammar or English test, a typing test and often a spoken English test. The call center assessment test guide shows what each part looks like.
Mock call
The recruiter or trainer plays a customer and you handle the call. This is the step that ends the most applications, and the mock call script examples show the call flow they score.
Final or operations interview
An account manager or team leader asks about the specific account and checks whether you would stay. Expect a question about handling an irate customer.
Job offer, requirements, then NHO
You sign the offer, submit the requirements above, and start with new hire orientation. The words you will hear from that first day on are in the BPO terms glossary.

Every checklist on this page can be completed in a week. The mock call cannot be completed by collecting papers, and it is where applicants with good English and a perfect folder still get the "we will call you" ending. Rehearse it out loud before hiring day. Free mock call practice puts you on a call with an AI customer in your browser and gives you a transcript and score after, so the first time you handle a complaint is not in front of the recruiter.
Frequently asked questions
What are the requirements for call center applicants?
To apply: at least 18 years old, senior high school or college level, clear spoken English, basic computer and typing skills, and willingness to work shifts. On hiring day: a resume and a valid ID. After the job offer: NBI clearance, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG and TIN numbers, PSA birth certificate, school records, ID photos and a medical exam.
Can I apply to a call center without experience?
Yes. Most entry-level voice accounts in the Philippines hire applicants with no BPO experience and train them. What they screen for is spoken English, listening and how you handle a customer in the mock call.
Can senior high school graduates work in a call center?
Yes, many BPOs accept senior high school graduates for entry-level accounts. Some specialised accounts, such as health care or banking, prefer or require a college degree.
Do I need an NBI clearance before applying to a call center?
Usually not. The NBI clearance is a pre-employment requirement, asked for after you receive a job offer. Start the application early anyway, because a name match can delay release.
How long do I have to submit pre-employment requirements?
It depends on the company, commonly a few days to two weeks after accepting the offer, and always before your start date. Ask HR for the deadline in writing, and tell them early if a document such as the NBI clearance is delayed.
Are call center requirements free for first-time jobseekers?
Many are. Under Republic Act 11261, first-time jobseekers with a barangay certification can get government documents such as the NBI clearance, police clearance and PSA birth certificate without paying the fee, once per document within one year.
Call center requirements in the Philippines are light at the start and heavy at the end. To apply you need age, schooling, clear English and a willingness to work nights. On hiring day you need a resume and an ID. After the offer you need the NBI clearance, your government numbers, school records and a medical exam, and first-time jobseekers can get the government documents free. Start the NBI clearance early, and spend the rest of your preparation time on the mock call, because that is the requirement that decides the hire.
